GIVING BACK: COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Fashion Show and Greenie Awards
Every year Veda Salon and Spa puts on a Fashion Show to help raise money for a local non-profit. Past recipients have included Catamount Institute and the Rocky Mountain Field Institute. As part of the Fashion Show we give out Greenie Awards to recognize local organizations or people that are doing their part to create sustainability in our Colorado Springs community.
Moment of Peace
At Moment of Peace, Veda closes the doors to the public at all four locations for one Sunday each year to volunteer services to those in our community who have had gone through rough times such as illness or other unfortunate life circumstances. At Veda, our community is our passion and we are involved in many community events throughout the year, however, our Moment of Peace event is a staff favorite.
We started Moment of Peace seven years ago when one of our staff members, Tara Kiele came up with the idea of giving back to those who have endured a serious illness or personal tragedy. She herself, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma when she was 19 years old. When she brought the idea to the owner, Carrie Perkins, she jumped at the chance to get involved with community in a way that was meaningful to both our guests and our staff.
Moment of Peace is all about renewal; hopefully giving recipients a sense of renewal among their everyday struggles, also giving our staff a sense of gratitude and a chance to renew their commitment to Veda and Aveda. Carrie’s last statement to me about Moment of Peace, and I LOVE IT, was this, “Everybody wins! It’s a big fat love fest!”A Moment of Peace is all about renewal.
The day of the event at each location there was a feeling of serenity and gratefulness, a quiteness that normally isn’t a part of everyday life at Veda. Our team volunteered 100% of their time to do facials, massages, pedicures, manicures and haircuts. They also brought homemade dishes for breakfast and lunch to serve our guests giving the event an even more personal touch. As they sat down to enjoy their lunches the men and women welcomed each other; there was no awkwardness, but love and acceptance from each of the people coming to join the group. Each of the people sitting down embraced one another and sat together and shared stories, but most of all they enjoyed a little bit of peace and comfort.
