Fall Into Beauty

With Autumn just beginning you'll notice it always seems to leave your skin, hair and nails feeling a little dull. This changing season VEDA  would like to share with you some amazing tips for maintaining your feminine glow after summer’s end.

Depending on your hair type the weather can play an important role in how your behaves. In cooler temperatures comes straw-like hair. When it's hot your hair can go limp due to the humidy. So, to bring some life back to your tresses,  follow a few simple rules:

  • Detox after summer. All summer long your hair has been exposed to chlorine and endless sun. Help your hair get a fresh start for fall by using Aveda Sun Care Hair and Body Cleanser to remove chlorine, salt and other product build up.
  • Deep condition more. If you are doing this already once a month, just bump it up to every other week. You can either come into Veda and get a Botanical Conditioning Treatment or purchase one of the treatment masques. My favorite is the Dry Remedy Moisturizing Treatment Masque. Rachel, a stylist from the North Academy location recommends the entire Aveda Dry Remedy line for your hair in colder weather. She also says getting gloss treatments during fall/winter months helps to moisturize hair, as well as add some shine.
  • Wash hair less. Every time you wash your hair, you also wash out all of the natural oils your scalp produces. Washing it only every other day instead of every day will let those oils do what they were destined for, and moisturize your hair and scalp. Also, putting a little bit of Aveda Beautifying Oil on your scalp before bed really helps moisturize.

When it starts to cool down, your skin may feel like it's transforming into a more elephant-like state…very dry and wrinkled. Fortunately we at VEDA have all the best resources available, as well as service providers that can give you some great tips for keeping your skin in a more radiant human state.

  • Jola is an esthetician at the North Academy location. Her recommendation is to get at least one facial from Veda that includes the Glycolic Plant Peel, and then a 4-week session of peels immediately after. She says the peel is so great because it is a more aggressive exfoliation for the skin, it removes dead skin cells, and helps other products you put on your skin to work more efficiently.
  • Exfoliate all over your body once or twice per week. One of my favorite Aveda products is the Aveda Caribbean Therapy Body Scrub; it exfoliates the skin with salt and Caribbean cane sugar, then softens and conditions with coconut, avocado and passion fruit oils…simply amazing! Also, come in and get the Aveda Salt Glow for a total body exfoliation that will leave your skin feeling baby soft.
  • One of the wonderful massage therapists from the North Academy location, Loren, says she really enjoys putting a few drops of Aveda Beautifying Oil in a bath and then using Aveda Caribbean Therapy Body Crème after she gets out to really help moisturize all over the body.
  • Make sure to use an eye crème like Aveda Green Science Firming Eye Crème at night to prevent dryness while also reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
  • For an everyday lotion on your hands and feet, make sure to try Aveda Hand Relief Lotion and Aveda Foot Relief Lotion. My boyfriend works outside services at a golf course and says Aveda Hand Relief is the only lotion that repairs his hands from the extreme dryness and cracks he gets. He now has everyone that works outside services using it.

Nails become a lot more brittle during colder months, so to avoid breakage, come in to one of the three Veda locations for regular manicures and pedicures. Also make sure to use Aveda Hand Relief and Aveda Foot Relief daily. Add a Paraffin Treatment to any manicure or pedicure for added moisture and softness.

During October, Aveda offers a 5 oz bottle of Limited Edition Hand Relief instead of the normal 4.2 oz bottle. $4 of each bottle sold goes to help fight Breast Cancer.

EXERCISE: Makes skin firm and wrinkle free, improves blood circulation and oxygen levels in the blood which means more efficient delivery of nutrients to the skin. Exercise also releases endorphins and serotonin to help you fend off cabin fever.

FOOD: Antioxidant rich fruits and veggies such as apples, blueberries, beets and collard greens help fight free radical damage to the skin. Healthy fats such as omega-3’s are also important for keeping skin lubricated, reducing water loss and decreasing inflammation. Good sources include: Avocado, sardines, wild salmon or dietary supplements.

Changing seasons require changing beauty regimens, so use these great tips and come into Veda for a relaxing much needed service. Don’t forget to also check out the fabulous Aveda products to help keep your hair and body looking and feeling amazing all season long.
