Let’s talk cinnamon. It’s especially popular this time of year in holiday baking and scented candles, but this special spice has benefits beyond what you might expect.
Cinnamon contains high levels of fiber and calcium, which are great for protecting against heart disease and other health conditions. It also works as an anti-inflammatory by inhibiting the release of the inflammatory fatty acid, arachidonic acid. In addition to these benefits, cinnamon can also stabilize blood sugar levels and act as a brain and memory stimulant!
Add cinnamon to your morning coffee, sprinkle it on toast or oatmeal, or even throw it in with your daily water intake!
Use this recipe to make your house smell amazing and to get the added benefit of the memory stimulant:
In a small sauce pan add:
- 1 cut up orange
- 3 cinnamon sticks broken in half
- 1 cup fresh cranberries
- 1- 2 tsp nutmeg
- 1-2 tsp cloves (whole or ground)
- Fill water to about 1 inch below the rim and it simmer on low!
